School-wide summer reading for all grades:Song for a Whale by Lynne Kelly “Iris is a twelve-year-old girl who was born deaf. Her hearing classmates at school aren’t good at sign language like she is, so it’s not easy to make friends…or even communicate with them. Blue 55 is a whale who sings a song that no other whales can hear. Scientists have dubbed him the loneliest whale in the world. When Iris learns about Blue 55 in science class, she knows exactly how he must feel and comes up with an idea—she’s going to sing back to him! Will the loneliest whale in the ocean finally be heard? And can Iris show how a little determination can make big waves?”

ELA/Honors ELA ONLINE CURRICULUM Directions: 1. Log into Schoology 2. Look for the ELA course. Click it. (You do not need to join this course. You will be already enrolled in it.) 3. Review the expectations on the Welcome page. 4. Everything on my page is organized by folders. Week 1 folder, Week 2 folder, etc. Inside the folders, the activities are organized by days. They will be labelled Monday 4/27. That means that activity or story should be done on that day and is due on that day. Sometimes the activity is just a reading or video, and sometimes it is a quiz, posting a comment, or a longer writing assignment. 5. The folders will become available the week that they are due. Week 1 becomes available 4/27, Week 2 becomes available 5/4, etc.
Schoology Tips: 1. Your student should check Schoology everyday because there are assignments every day. 2. Even if your student gets behind in their work, they can turn work in late. 3.
